21 People Injured, 140 Cars Damaged
Evacuation Ordered, Toxic Smoke Spreads
A Mercedes-Benz EQE electric sedan exploded Thursday night in an underground parking lot in Incheon, South Korea, causing widespread damage and injuries.
Firefighters responded to the scene around 10 pm and found the EQE engulfed in flames. The fire quickly spread, damaging a total of 140 vehicles in the parking lot. The building was evacuated due to the toxic smoke from the fire.
21 people were injured in the incident, 7 of whom were taken to the hospital. They suffered from smoke inhalation or burn injuries.
The fire was extinguished after four hours, and the affected area is still under investigation. Mercedes-Benz Korea has not yet released an official statement on the cause of the explosion.
This incident underscores the potential risks of electric vehicles. While electric vehicles are becoming increasingly popular due to their environmental benefits, they can pose a fire hazard if not properly maintained or if there is a battery failure.
It is important for both consumers and manufacturers to be aware of the potential risks associated with electric vehicles and to take all necessary precautions to prevent incidents like this from happening again.
