Brad Marchand's timely goal midway through the third period propelled the Boston Bruins to a 4-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday night, giving them a 2-1 lead in their first-round playoff series.
The game was tied 2-2 after two periods, with Jake DeBrusk scoring twice for Boston and Michael Bunting and Denis Malgin replying for Toronto. Marchand broke the deadlock at 9:43 of the third, wristing a shot past Ilya Samsonov for his fourth goal of the postseason.
Jeremy Swayman was outstanding in net for the Bruins, making 35 saves to earn his second win of the series. Samsonov stopped 27 shots for the Maple Leafs. DeBrusk finished with a three-point night, adding an assist to his two goals.
Game 4 of the series will be played in Boston on Friday night.
