New Deal Worth $6.5 Million Annually
Contract Features Fully Guaranteed Salary, Making Freeze Highest-Paid Group of Five Coach
Auburn University has announced a new six-year contract for head football coach Hugh Freeze. The deal, which was released by the school, has an annual base compensation of $6.5 million.
The contract is fully guaranteed through the 2030 season. According to sources, the annual salary will make Freeze the highest-paid Group of Five coach in 2023, after Cincinnati transitions to the Big 12.
"We are grateful for Coach Freeze's outstanding leadership of Liberty Football and the positive influence he has had on our student-athletes, staff, and community," said Auburn Athletics Director John Cohen. "We believe that his proven success, exceptional character, and commitment to excellence make him the ideal person to lead Auburn Football into the future."
Freeze expressed his excitement about the opportunity to coach at Auburn.
"I am honored and humbled to be the head football coach at Auburn University," Freeze said. "Auburn has a rich tradition of success, and I am excited to be a part of that tradition. I believe in the potential of this program, and I am confident that we can achieve great things together."
Freeze has compiled a 33-12 record since being hired by Liberty in 2019. He previously coached at Ole Miss from 2012 to 2016, where he led the Rebels to a 39-25 record and three bowl appearances.
