Brighton and Hove Albion Women were crowned champions of the FA Women's Super League on Wednesday after Arsenal Women secured a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Brighton in the penultimate match of the season. Frida Maanum's strike deep into stoppage time sealed the title for Brighton, who now hold an unassailable lead at the top of the table.
The game started slowly, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, Arsenal took the lead against the run of play in the 12th minute when Stina Blackstenius fired home from close range. Brighton responded well and created several chances to equalize, but they were unable to find a way past the Arsenal defense.
The second half was a more open affair, with both teams attacking with greater freedom. Arsenal doubled their lead in the 80th minute through a stunning strike from Beth Mead, who curled the ball into the top corner from the edge of the area. Brighton continued to push for a goal, but they were unable to find a way through the Arsenal defense, and Maanum's late strike sealed the victory for the Gunners.
The win means that Arsenal has now secured the title with one game to spare. Brighton will receive the trophy after their final match of the season against Manchester United at the American Express Community Stadium on May 14.
